Imagine this you’re all alone in a huge old mansion. You know the sort, huge iron gates, long driveway, creaking doors. Its dark. Pitch black in fact, and as far as you’re aware its now completely uninhabited. You approach the front door. Leaves all over the steps, cobwebs hanging from the door handle, paint peeling off the door.
You get a whiff of the most pungent smell you’ve ever encountered. Putrid, malodorous, reeking smell. Just how long has this place been left like this? Stop! And think for a minute. How do you feel? You’ve no reason to feel scared have you?
Welcome to the haunted world of ghosts, spirits and paranormal activity.
Here you are in this old house, which is not a very pleasant environment. What possible reason is there to feel frightened?
You don’t believe in … ghosts, do you?
You’re confident, fearless, dare I say dauntless.
You’re intelligent, far too worldly wise, in fact much too perspicacious to be taken in by such a spurious argument.
After all, what evidence is there that proves ghosts do exist, and they are the disembodied spirit of a dead person? That is they show the conscious energy left over from a living person after they have died. The evidence to prove or disprove is certainly not conclusive from either perspective.
Many people report physical changes in haunted places, often a feeling of presence accompanied by a temperature drop and hearing unaccountable sounds.
Some claim it is possible to receive communication from a dead person. That communication can be a sudden feeling of sadness when you enter a room. It could also be sudden thoughts that come into your mind as a form of communication.
Here you are on a mission To prove or disprove the existence of ghosts. There are many things you could try, such as a séance or ouija boards, but will they be conclusive?
You walk upstairs – creaking, squeaking.
You walk into a room and feel uneasy or anxious for no apparent reason. Why are you suddenly experiencing emotional swings, or feeling sick or faint and getting headaches? Is this transference, or is it coincidence?
It is said when spirits want to communicate with the living, they may not be able to use words (like I am doing now), and so they try to pass on emotions and sensations instead.
When I am communicating with you, what other techniques can I use apart from speaking? Body language? Gestures.
You hear myself breathing, so you hold your breath. You then hear your hear beating. You can still hear another sound, somewhere, but cannot pinpoint what it is or where its coming from?
Being scared is all about emotions. Your muscles tense up. Your eyes start to water. Your heartbeat quickens, and your breathing slows down.
If there is a ghost here, is it intent on actually harming you, let alone frightening you? May be it is simply trying to communicate with you.
A trapped spirit that is looking for assistance to get to the next level in the spiritual world.
In this short speech, I cannot possibly convince you there is a spiritual world of ghosts and other paranormal activity. Equally, I cannot categorically disprove it you either. Ultimately, you will have to make up your own minds.
Try this. Close your eyes, and think of someone you knew, someone you cared about, that has now gone on their journey to the other side. Create their image in your mind. Visualise them. Now listen to what they are saying. Are these honestly your words that are entering your thoughts? Are they saying things that you may not necessarily have thought of? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
